As I said yesterday, there is nothing wrong with a 2 hop WIDEn-N path in a balloon in a proper APRS New-N paradigm network. There is remarkably little difference between a 1-hop and a 2-hop path at altitude using balloons: Every digi that hears it will digipeat it once and only once. The load in the area of every digi within hundreds of miles is no different than a 1 minute mobile driving though. The ERRORS yesterday in violation of all recommendations were 1) Use of an arrogant 30 second period 2) Use of WIDE1-1 as the first hop The benefit to the balloonist of 2 hops is important and causes little added QRM and should be tolerated. 30 second rates and using WIDE1-1 should be corrected.
