I was shocked to learn of all the hoops you have to jump through just to "do APRS" over there and all of the limitations that make it really difficult to set up. It's about time that hams were given more of a hand in "writing regulations" for how we operate... not just there, but everywhere. There is a glimmer of hope that this may actually be happening in Canada, but the final chapter hasn't been written yet. Governments should govern... and pay attention to the will of the people. In the case of regulations for amateur radio, we are the people. Bureaucrats should just stay in the bureau and try to do as little damage as possible. You don't get to choose bureaucrats, but you do get to chose who governs. Make your voice heard! PS - don't let it be said that I was preaching anarchy, but what if every ham in the UK were to set up a digi? Would they throw the whole lot of you in jail? Remind them that it was hams that brought all the advances that gave them "radio" in the first place that they found so useful in times of both war and peace. Do they want to make it so restrictive that hams just give up and pack it in? Who are they going to call on then during a major disaster or conflict when their own infrastructure collapses? Of course, I should be saying this on the APRS UK list and not here! 73 es cul - Keith VE7GDH -- "I may be lost, but I know exactly where I am!"
