Picking up some sort of > noise etc. I just played back a RADAR loop of all of the USA from the weather.gov website and the streaks occurred from Louisiana to New Mexico, starting from east and moving west. That would mesh with your suggestion that it is the setting sun. I wonder why it coincided with the odd propagation of the APRS beacon? Perhaps that was just coincidence.
