In APRS mode, I think the D710 is only capable of sending Mic-E
compressed positions.

In PACKET mode, the internal TNC can be set with a plain-text lat/lon
BTEXT. To use the BTEXT option, it would need to be a fixed station,
or I suppose the BTEXT could be updated with a PIC as you suggest.
