Anyone One key question for your friend is: Does he want a unit that is good for car navigation, or a "normal" outdoor version? There aren't that many choices that are designed primarily for car navigation and also have an NMEA 0183 output. But if an outdoor model is what he wants, there's still a pretty good selection of GPS-receivers available that come equipped with a serial port. Tapio
