And one glaring hole is the iPad hardware... no ability for interfacing 
to radio hardware, no built in USB!!

You need another adapter hanging off your sleek new Apple product to 
provide that... and even then, it's not a designed as a normal host USB 
socket, it's for camera users so if you were thinking of plugging in a 
USB GPS, serial interface or memory stick, you might be outta luck.

No SD card socket either, so you can't buy the cheaper 16 gb model and  
add your own storage. Good thinking there apple!!
