Well, first of all, with the TMD710, you want to use STATUS 5, because that is the one which automatically inserts your voice channel operating frequency into your transmitted position packets. That way, as you drive, eveyone can see how to contact you. I usually add the comment text "& V-alert." so they can see I am also listening on 144.39 with CTCSS 100. As to the CUSTOM comments, all that means is that if you set CUSTOM 3 then everyone will see that you set CUSTOM 3. But it only has meaning to anyone that you have previously told them what to interpret CUSTOM 3 to mean. That is all. Hope that helps.
