Propagation on HF has been horrible the last year or so -- far fewer stations showing up on my 30 meters HF map at: <http://wa8lmf.dyndns.org:14439> than in years past. However, I have received some "real DX" stations here in Southern California. The log snippet below reflects the entire day of 19 Aug 2010 from 00:00 to 23:59, as monitored off the air in Pasadena, CA with a Kenwood TS-50 and KAM TNC using the homebrew magnetic loop antenna described here: <http://wa8lmf.net/ham/30m-magloop-ant.htm> This log reflects only the "classic" AX.25 packet activity, and does NOT include the newer APRS over PSK63 mode. The log is produced by the AGW Monitor add-on for the AGW Packet Engine. All times are local (to me in Los Angeles) Pacific Daylight Time. Note that several stations are using completely useless (for HF) digipeater paths that include variations of "WIDE". (The few HF digipeaters around DO NOT respond to variations of WIDE. All these paths with "WIDE" do is make the packet longer while guaranteeing that you WON'T be digipeated, and reduce the probability of a successful decode.) =============PASTE================ 2:Fm ZS1TA-9 To APRS Via WIDE1-1,WIDE <UI pid=F0 Len=21 >[00:30:58] /073052h/QO,S2Lv;Y`;_ 2:Fm VK3MY-4 To APRS <UI pid=F0 Len=50 >[06:49:02] !3751.54SG14518.28E& / APRS 10Mhz Net Station (2) 2:Fm W6OTH To APZ114 Via ECHO,GATE,WIDE2-2 <UI pid=F0 Len=85 >[08:50:34] =3727.43N/12153.73W-PHG3360 KAM, FT840. de Tracy Overlooking Silicon Valley - 30m HF 2:Fm ZS1TA-9 To APRS Via WIDE1-1,WIDE <UI pid=F0 Len=21 >[04:56:20] /115614h/QhJU1dV7Yc=_ 2:Fm W8LIW-15 To APWW03 Via WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 <UI pid=F0 Len=45 >[06:23:48] =4135.60N\08326.02W-APRSIS32 - Millbury, Ohio 2:Fm K5RAV To APW251 Via GATE,WIDE <UI pid=F0 Len=57 >[16:36:08] >112239 <<Rio Grande Valley of South Texas HF/VHF Gate>> 2:Fm KF7EU-10 To GATE Via WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2 <UI pid=F0 Len=30 >[18:03:57] =4737.43N\12205.67W- {UIV32N} 2:Fm KB8DID To APS221 Via ECHO,GATE <UI pid=F0 Len=17 >[19:05:34] :KB8VME :.{Fm} ==============END PASTE====================== -- Stephen H.
