Assume that all packets seen on APRS-IS can be gated to RF; therefore, there is no difference in operation on APRS-IS and on RF. If it is remembered that the primary purpose of APRS-IS is to interconnect the amateur radio RF networks to provide a world-wide amateur radio digital communications network (APRS is a communications protocol, not just a tracking protocol; right, Bob?), loading on APRS-IS (all facilities donated by amateur radio operators) as well as loading on RF networks (many IGates are configured to gate more than just messages and associated posits) will stay at a sustainable level. Hope this helps. 73, Pete Loveall AE5PL pete at ae5pl dot net > -----Original Message----- > From: Greg D. > Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 2010 12:22 AM > > What sort of beacon rate is considered acceptable into APRS-IS, from mobile- > but-non-RF clients?
