Cross-posted to javaprssrvr to see if there are any comments on this duplicated message in APRS-IS... Actually, if you look at your Raw packets: 2010-01-12 21:30:54 UTC: *VK2JNG-9 <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2JNG-9>*>APK102,VK2BTQ-1* <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2BTQ-1>,WIDE2-1,qAR,VK2IN-5 <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2IN-5>::CQSRVR :CQ CQ Gerard EL#63666 147.050MHz{58 2010-01-12 21:30:54 UTC: *VK2JNG-9 <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2JNG-9>*>APJIC1,qAR,CQSRVR::KJ4ERJ-12:CQ CQ Gerard EL#63666 147.050MHz *[Duplicate message content]* 2010-01-12 21:30:54 UTC: *VK2JNG-9 <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2JNG-9>*>APJIC1,qAR,CQSRVR::WB4APR-9 :CQ CQ Gerard EL#63666 147.050MHz *[Duplicate message content]* 2010-01-12 21:30:55 UTC: *VK2JNG-9 <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2JNG-9>*>APK102,VK2BTQ-1 <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2BTQ-1>,VK2RAG-1 <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2RAG-1>,WIDE2*,qAR,VK2ZEN-5 <http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&limit=&call=VK2ZEN-5>::CQSRVR :CQ CQ Gerard EL#63666 147.050MHz{58 *[Duplicate message ID]* The problem, I believe, is that final packet. VK2IN-5 gated your first packet by way of VK2BTQ-1. That's the one that CQSRVR acted on sending out the two notifications to KJ4ERJ-12 (coincidentally me) and WB4APR-9 (Bob). The final packet gated by VK2ZEN-5 should not be showing up at all assuming that every server in the APRS-IS chain is using a 30 second dupe check. I've noticed that if multiple IGates hear a packet near simultaneously, a duplicate like this can actually show up in the raw APRS-IS logs. The aprs.fi Messages screen suppresses these duplicates so you have to look at Raw to see them.
