Based on feedback, I have revised the SSID suggestions to these: -0 Primary station usually fixed and message capable -1 Other station, or digipeater or mobile or anything -2 Other station, or digipeater or mobile or anything -3 Other station, or digipeater or mobile or anything -4 Other station, or digipeater or mobile or anything -5 From other networks (Dstar, Iphones, Blackberry's etc) -6 Special event, Satellite ops, camping or 6 meters, etc -7 walkie talkies, HT's or other human portable -8 boats, sailboats, RV'sor second main mobile -9 Primary Mobile of all types -10 internet, Igates, etc -11 balloons, aircraft, etc -12 APRStt, DTMF, RFID, one-way trackers, devices, etc -13 Weather stations -14 Truckers or full time drivers -15 General purpose for anything I added one-way trackers and other devices to -12, since that is a meaningful category of devices that are one way... I also freed up -15 for any other use. > -----Original Message----- > From: aprssig-bounces at tapr.org > Sent: Sunday, June 06, 2010 10:53 AM > Subject: [aprssig] SSID Standardization > > SSID's (again): > > As more and more handheld and mobile apps flash up > nearby APRS callsigns on small displays, I think it > is becomming more important to encourage standard > SSID's where possible for more instant situational > awareness. > > From aprs.org/aprs11.html (currently having ISP problems). > > -0 primary fixed and message capable station > -1 digis and other fixed stations > -2 digis and other fixed stations > -3 digis and other fixed stations > -4 digis and other fixed stations > -5 TBD <= maybe Dstar/Echolink/phones/Ipads etc > -6 Satellite, special events, tests > -7 HT's, walkie talkies or any human portable > -8 boats, sailboats OR second vehicle > -9 primary Mobiles of all types > -10 operations via the internet (Igates) > -11 balloons and aircraft > -12 DTMF, RFID, or other non-APRS sources > -13 TBD <== Weather has been suggested) > -14 Truckers and full time drivers > -15 HF <== Lets expand to GENERIC ANYTHING ELSE > > There will ALWAYS BE EXCEPTIONS.
