Didn't see this message until today. Consider subscribing to the
Xastir list and asking such questions there, we have a lot of list
subscribers that might be able to help you.
Check what group the serial port is a member of, add your user to
that group, then log out and back in to gain the privileges. If the
permissions are set correctly for that port then the owner and the
group should be able to read and write to it, but "other" should
not. Something like:
