I'd be very curious what APRS software he has found that decodes these.
That format had to be deprecated to make room for Yaesu and other Mic-E type
codes.

Joan is the XYL of George N7GME.  They are using the old TAPR Mic-E devices.
George owns a number of them and loves them, so he is using them in his
vehicles, boats, etc.....
