But that format (used only on the original TAPR Mic-E's) has been more or
less broken by the re-use of those two special ' and ` markers for all
future Mic-E TYPE codes.

The good news is that all EXISTING code that parsed those old units
telemetery WILL CONTINUE TO WORK.  Its just that they will get confused by
newer devices and so it is not a good idea to continue to encourage that
telemetry format's  use.
