Keith, maybe you missed my message earlier this evening where I said 
that I had an Excel spreadsheet that helps me make the conversion.

I've been using the ITN Converter program because it seems to handle 
Garmin database (.GDB) files better than GPS Babel. It will also 
handle .GPX files and several other GPS formats. Additionally, ITN 
Converter has an edit feature that allows the user to add and delete 
waypoints and view the data on a Google map before converting it. I 
output the waypoints as a .CSV file that I read into Excel. The 
spreadsheet is set up to convert the lat/lon for each point to 
UI-View format. I manually clean up the object names and add the 
symbol codes that I want. That spreadsheet is then saved as a .PRN 
file (space delimited text). I change the extension to .POS and open 
the file in APRSIS/32. Task complete.

But this would all be unnecessary if the APRS client program read a 
common GPS or map program data format such as .GPX.
