That would only have made the radio a return path if it was grounded to the body/frame through its mounting bracket/antenna shield and it would have also had to be grounded directly to the battery but you said it was to the dash. 73, Scott KBØNLY -----Original Message----- From: Curt, WE7U Sent: Saturday, October 29, 2011 8:04 PM To: TAPR APRS Mailing List Subject: Re: [aprssig] 12V wiring ideas On Sat, 29 Oct 2011, KBØNLY wrote: > That’s what I was just going to say, couldn't have happened as described > with > a negative ground. > > Scott > > > > -----Original Message----- From: DALE > Sent: Saturday, October 29, 2011 7:13 PM > To: TAPR APRS Mailing List > Subject: Re: [aprssig] 12V wiring ideas > > in that case there was a piece of pos gnd equipment installed. > dale I don't believe that was the case, but that was a long time ago. I believe the 1st car was either a Plymouth Fury I or a Ford Pinto Station Wagon (probably the latter). The 2nd car was a Plymouth Fury III. These cars were stock. What I thought I figured out a few years later was that there must have been a loose ground (From the engine to the chassis? Chassis to battery?), so the starter current tried to return via a different path. Could there have been potential between the antenna ground and the metal dash? That would have caused current to flow through the radio's ground. -- Curt, WE7U. http://www.eskimo.com/~archer APRS Wiki: http://info.aprs.net/ _______________________________________________ aprssig mailing list aprssig at tapr.org https://www.tapr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/aprssig
