As a D700 & D7 owner, something in the comment field should be an alternate option.  Inserting comments (or now that I think of it more, even messages) is easy via serial port and I'm pretty sure those radios can't do the telemetry protocol...no?

The easiest way, I would think. to do with with APRS is use the existing Telemetry protocols, so nothing new would need to be created beyond the interface of your counter to a tracker/transmitter.

This is pretty awesome, how can I take part in this project?  And you're right, it would be cool to add this to ARPS, just like a weather station.

It isnt APRS, though I could turn that on while Mobile to TN.

To track my mobile Geiger Counter Radiation readings on this trip, go to:
www.radiationnetwork.com and I will be the round yellow circle with the arrow pointing in my direction of travel. It will also show the gieger counter counts per minute in that circle.

If you click on the tab in the upper right corner for the map of the day, you will see the trail from the start of the trip to its current realtime location. GPS is being used with this system on a Windows 7 laptop and a Sprint Epic smart phone for the internet.

I will pop a APRS ping out from time to time with the Geiger comment.
