[aprssig] Σχετ: Radio Shack demise - 11 meter to 10m conversions!

I dont think that convert a CB to a 10m rtx is so simple as it sounds. It is not only the VFO ... and XTAL changes. The most difficult part is to retune all the front-end and output filter circuits in order to make these things work properly on 10m. In past I tried to convert a 23 channel am/ssb GE cb (from 70s) to 10m and even that i used the correct xtals... the sensitivity on 10m was really bad and the tx power was milliwatts and this was happening because the thing needed retuning and for me it was impossible because i didnt have the schematics.

Get off this idea and let’s move on to doing it on 10 meters where there is SO much room above 29 MHz that you can pretty much set up and do anything you want consistent with the ARRL band plan.
CB radios can be converted and moved up. I have a 40 year old Midland that was converted by simply changing out the crystal that mixed everything together and VOILA!: a 10 meter AM/SSB radio…

Now THAT really appeals to me.  Thats the kind of grass roots projects I like.  What we need is a web page collecting all the possible conversions and if we are only trying to convert to ONE frequency, then all we need to do is figure out the master oscillator crystal for each radio brand that will move the radio there.

I'll host the web page if people can send me the links to conversions.

Subject: Re: [aprssig] Radio Shack demise - 11 meter Citizens Weather Now THAT is an idea.  Afterall, APRS weather is more closer to CITIZENS WEATHER already!Lets ask the FCC for two channels.  One for APRS Citizens Weather, and the other for other real-time needs. Does anyone want to initiate the papwer work with the FCC.  I have seen a lot of other stupid ideas sent to them, why not this one.  We can SURE show them what it entails by showing them all the CITIZENS weather on APRS already! Bob, WB4APR From: aprssig-bounces at tapr.org [mailto:aprssig-bounces at tapr.org] On Behalf Of Andrew P.
