As Andre points out, the idea is to quit thinking of the AX.25 link layer as one big monolithic network. Instead, we are moving in the direction of looking at each local RF network independently allowing for more robust interconnection of the individual LANs. This also readily allows sharing of RF LANs among more than one application. Hope this helps. 73, Pete Loveall AE5PL > -----Original Message----- > From: Andre PE1RDW > Sent: Saturday, September 24, 2005 10:04 AM > To: Discussion of Link Layer use of AX.25 > Subject: Re: [ax25-layer2] Basic Concepts > > James Ewen schreef: > > > pete at ae5pl.net wrote: > > > >> This is because the routing is done outside of the link > layer and off > >> the single RF channel used by digipeater chaining. > > > > > > This is where you loose me... how do we get packets moved > from point a > > to point b without using the RF channel? > > How about by using a seccond RF channel and even more between > the nodes leaving the user RF channels free of the network trafic. > The last thing you want is a single channel network at 1200 baud. > you have to separate the endpoint links and the network links > if you want a working network. > > 73 de Andre PE1RDW
