I think you're right - but it was mentioned and I thought I'd bring up some
concerns.

Afraid I don't have time to go over your TCP arguments at the moment, but
you're probably right.  I never really bother running ANY connected mode, so
from my perspective UDP on HDLC would be fine.  Or some other stripped-down
AX.25 variant - but then I'm mostly concerned with APRS type operation, not
sure what the connected mode world is up to these days.

I do think a better mail spec is needed.  Again, haven't had time to look
into it much.  And at the moment, I'm going flat out just to get things
finished up in time for a 4-day diving trip.  Might bring a laptop along,
but broadband coverage that far off the coast is scarce.  I'll try to get
caught up next week, but I'm definitely interested in this discussion.
