[ax25-layer2] AX.25 over raw serial interface

You are saying that you are not using a TNC to do packet formatting
and that complete AX.25 packets are being generated, CRC and all, in
the computer. I'm also assuming that a second computer is to receive
these AX.25 packets, CRC and all, and make sense of them.

If you already have software that does these things, all you need
between the two computers is a null modem cable.

In my ignorance, I'm not aware of any software that actually does
these things as every outboard TNC I'm aware of will format the
packets. The KISS protocol has the computer doing much of the
formatting but the CRC is still computed/checked by the TNC. I
believe you are not using any TNC at all. Is this true?

The only other approach I can think of is to get a more recent packet
program that does complete packet formatting, including CRC, and then
uses the computers sound card as a modem. With a couple of computers
thus equipped, you need only analog cables to interconnect the two sound cards.

All of this seems simple and straightforward to me. What am I missing?
