The following might serve as a useful tool to introduce transmission lines and what you see on a smith chart. http://users.encs.concordia.ca/~trueman/trline/index.htm Lester B Veenstra M0YCM K1YCM K1YCM/6Y5 Mail Address: Lester Veenstra PSC 45 Box 781 APO AE 09468 Telephones: Office 940-6456 Office +44-(0)1423-846-385 Home: +44-(0)1943-880-963 UK Cell +44-(0)7716-298-224 -----Original Message----- From: vna-bounces at lists.tapr.org [mailto:vna-bounces at lists.tapr.org] On Behalf Of Moller, Chris Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2007 7:47 PM To: TAPR/Ten-Tec VNA Users List Subject: RE: [vna] Is there a FAQ available for new list members? Hi Ken, Thanks very much for the prompt reply. I will get the book right away. I do not imagine the book you suggested will have specific examples of TAPR/Ten-Tec's VNA in use. Right? In addition I am looking for simple examples step by step of using the VNA at the lab bench. For instance I'm not sure how (exactly) to connect the device to measure the characteristics of a 50 ohm radio antenna or if I want to experiment with a bread boarded band pass filter how to connect the VNA device to the filter on the board. Or even how I can measure the electrical length of a coax cable. Can I purchase sma connectors that connect to the bread board and to the VNA device? I just need to see a few actual examples to open my imagination. I also do not want to damage the equipment at least for a while! All the best, Chris -----Original Message----- From: vna-bounces at lists.tapr.org [mailto:vna-bounces at lists.tapr.org] On Behalf Of Klein, Ken Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2007 2:22 PM To: 'TAPR/Ten-Tec VNA Users List' Subject: RE: [vna] Is there a FAQ available for new list members? Chris: A great place to start is by reading RF Circuit Design by Chris Bowick. You can get it at Amazon for about $26. That will give you a leg up on S-parameters, the Smith Chart, and generally everything wonderful about rf. Hi, I have joined the group to learn more about my RF Vector Network Analyzer. I am a relative beginner to RF electronics and especially the use of network analyzers. It is my hope to learn from the members. I am especially interested in detailed application notes or FAQs. Thank You, Chris Moller _______________________________________________ vna mailing list vna at lists.tapr.org https://lists.tapr.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vna
