The Green Line

During the first third of the Twentieth Century, the Waterbury and Milldale Tramway Co. also known as "The Green Line," provided public transportation between downtown Waterbury and the Milldale section of Southington via the Meriden Road corridor of Wolcott. At its peak, it operated six cars over 9.2 miles of track. The line was abandoned in October, 1933. This photo depicts a Peter Witt “War Board Car” built during World War I parked at the west end of its route on The Green in downtown Waterbury.

The trolley's right of way down Southington Mountain is still visible along the south boundary of the Farmingbury golf course and along the north side of County Road between the golf course and De Fashion Street in Southington.
